Pendulum: Brixton Academy: Friday 5th December 2008

December 6, 2008

Vision: (5/10): Drum and bass meets rock guitars meets semi-frequent sung vocals with regular jumpy and shouty MC style chap. Bombastic and lacking any pretence at subtlety. Loud, shuddering, building demolishingly loud. Mostly instrumental songs with regular injections of shouting infused ejaculations.

Ability to execute: (7/10): Primal but highly effective at delivering their manifesto. Impact outweighed nuances but energy levels were undimmed and raucous. A slightly misguided displaying of the lyrics to The Tempest only highlighted their underwhelming content.

Crowd Symbiosis (10/10): Although not my aural cup of Brownian motion the crowd stomped, boomed and kinetically pounded their way with ecstatically receptive limbic systems. The fact that a live DVD was being filmed added to the evident ebullience.

Would See Again (4/10): Highly unlikely, was entertained enough but would rather unearth The Prodigy’s greatest hits or listen to LCD soundsystem. Rather too blunt an instrument for my particular taste receptors.

Rather impressive in its autumnal decline. Generously covered in flower buds, so looking hopefully for winter succulent scent.

It seems to have stabilised in terms of height. Mighty, mighty impressive plant.

Amazing survivor. After being munched wholesale by slugs it still somehow managed to flower with spectacular results.

Appears more frost proof than I imagined. Definitely has ambitions of taking on its tree form. Smells heavenly (or at least tea tree like)
